In the first match that Napoli played in this Serie A season, Hamsik was decisive for the grouping from Stadio San Paolo. Rafa Benitez’s players have managed to win at home 3-0 in front of Bologna. The goals were scored by José Callejón (32 ‘) and Marek Hamsik twice (45′ and 63 ‘).
The Spanish tactician was very pleased with his footballers’ development, noting that it was not very difficult to choose the player to give him the captain’s armband.
“It was easy for me to decide who would be the captain, because Marek Hamsik is a talented player,” Benitez said after the match.
“He’s a player who can make the difference and giving him such a responsibility could contribute to enhancing his self-esteem for the future. It really was an easy choice, he scored two goals tonight, let’s see if he repeats the result each game we play.”
The Spaniard came this summer to Napoli and has worked hard with the players during the training sesion. He did some top transfers, including Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid, and warns his opponents in the championship that his team has not yet reached its 100% potential.
“Napoli definitely aren’t at 100 per cent at the moment. There’s a lot to do from the physical, tactical and technical point of view. The team have just changed, they’ve just taken a new direction, but the self-confidence they proved today is surely the right beginning and the key for the future. But we still have a long way to go ahead of us.” added the Spanish tactician.
Next round Napoli will travel to Chievo, team that drew yesterday in Parma, final score 0-0.
