The Italian Football Federation continues to penalize teams involved in the scandal of match fixing in the Peninsula. Napoli is the fifth team downgraded in Serie A this season, after Sampdoria, Siena, Atalanta and Torino.
The team from southern Italy remained two points less and dropped in the rankings from 3rd place to 5th, because attempting to arrange the match against Sampdoria in the 2009-2010 season.
Were not the only sanctions imposed by the Italian feds. Captain Paolo Cannavaro and another defender, Gianluca Grava, were suspended six months for concealment. The man who staged the arrangement, Matteo Gianello, retired, was sentenced to a suspension of three years and three months.
