Fiorentina midfielder Massimo Ambrosini said that Juventus is favorite to qualify for the Europa League quarterfinals, even if his team earned a draw in Turin.
The first game between the two teams, which took place in Turin last week, finished in a draw, 1-1. It’s for the third time the two teams meet in the last two weeks, and they get to know each other quite well in this period.
Although the Viola have the advantage they play home this evening and could qualify with a 0-0, Ambrosini said that his team is not favorite to qualify in this duel.
“In a game that is level, anything can happen,” the Italian midfieder told the club’s official website
“he 1-1 draw leaves absolutely everything unchanged. It would be crazy to think of ourselves as favourites. There is a difference [between the two clubs] in terms of a structural and environmental level.
“To compete at the top for more years is what every club wants and we want to play well, to win and reach important targets. However, Juventus are definitely one of the strongest teams [in the Europa League].”
Mario Gomez scoreed the equalizer for Fiorentina in the first leg, and all eyes are now on him in this game. But Ambrosini said that the former Bayern striker has not yet reached his top form.
“Mario still needs to play a lot of games,” the 36-year-old argued. “I saw him in peak fitness in pre-season and he needs more time.”
