The Special One is back in the Premier League after a break of six years. The Portuguese manager has quickly established discipline into the team at Stamford Bridge and now are forced to fight for starting places even the most representative player of the club.
Among them is captain John Terry, the iconic player of the Blues who was kept on the bench by former manager Rafa Benitez. Even though he played all 90 minutes in the first match of the new season, Terry is aware that it’s not easy to convince Mourinho that you deserve a place in the starting XI.
“[There are] no guarantees you will be in the side, nothing,” said the defender for Sky Sports Radio. “Whether you are captain or not, he made that very clear from day one.”
In this fixture Chelsea will play away to champions Manchester United, a match that although it is very early to be said, could decide the championship at the end of the season, given that these two teams are the main favorites for the title.
But Terry does not think that points at stake in this fight will be decisive in the economy of this Premier League season, although could represent a boost.
“I don’t think it is going to make or break the season. It could be one of them – a head-start for either side. But we have a good record going to Old Trafford over the last few years and that will serve us well.”
“It is David Moyes’ first game at the stadium so we are expecting quite a hostile atmosphere anyway. But we will go there and look to stay solid for the first 10 or 15 minutes anyway.”
In case of victory against the Red Devils Mourinho’s Chelsea will be 6 points above United, but with on game extra. The Portuguese did not lose any match in the Premier League since his returning to the London club, and a victory on Monday night would excite the Blues’ fans.
