Coach Tito Vilanova, who gave up the leadership of FC Barcelona for reasons of health, on Tuesday will undergo surgery, inform the Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo. The surgery will take place at the Hospital Vall d’Hebron in Barcelona.
FC Barcelona President Sandro Rosell announced on Friday evening in a press conference that tactician Tito Vilanova can no longer enshure the position of head coach at the Catalan club because of health problems.
Saturday evening, Tito Vilanova thanked to all from FC Barcelona and to the fans for their support during this period, through an open letter posted on the Catalan club’s website.
Vilanova, Josep Guardiola’s former assistant, took over the team last season and had a contract with FC Barcelona until the summer of 2014.
Tito Vilanova, aged 44, was operated on December 20, 2012, at Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, after being detected a node to two inches of where a tumor was excised in 2011 . Vilanova underwent an operation in November 2011 which was removed a tumor from the parotid gland. In January, Vilanova went to New York, where he stayed for two months for treatment.
Now that Barcelona was left without a coach, the heads of the group from Camp Nou rushing to put someone in his place. Barcelona officials have announced that today might already find a replacement, because there is not much time until will start the new season in the Primera Division.
