Arsenal’s midfielder Mesut Ozil hopes the German national team to win the World Cup in Brazil after at the last final tournaments were very close by trophies.
Germany seems to have become an increasingly powerful team in world football. At the last tournament reached the latter stages, and at the last three World Cups have come at least in the semi-finals. But the world last trophy dates from 1990, when beat Argentina in the Copa del Mondo final.
Now in 2014 Mesut Ozil says his team deserved a reward after all that has done in recent years, but admits it will be difficult against a big favorite, Brazil, which will play in front of their fans.
“Germany deserve to win a World Cup again. The entire nation seemingly expects us to win the World Cup,” Ozil told Bild.
“We were all still young in 2010 and everybody was surprise that we were that good, but there’s plenty of pressure this time around.
“Everything’s different now because we have been playing some great football over the past four years.
“But winning the World Cup will be quite difficult. Brazil are the favourites, but we can make history by becoming the first European country to win the title in South America.
“When you get to play at the World Cup, you want to win the tournament, too. And we definitely have the potential to win it.”
In group phase Germany the will meet Portugal, Ghana and the United States.
