Diego Costa has admitted that he made trouble about his participation in the World Cup in Brazil, after the injury in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.
After the Spanish Football Federation struggled a long time to naturalise Brazilian striker Diego Costa, he was on the verge of missing the World Cup from this summer. Costa had a very challenging season at Atletico Madrid, the team that managed to win La Liga and play the UEFA Champions League final.
But in the last match of the season, the UCL final in Lisbon, Costa was injured after just nine minutes. The Spanish striker claimed that he was nervous about his calling for La Roja after the injury.
“It was in my head that I might not get to the World Cup,” Costa said according AS. “I was afraid it could be something [more serious].
“I appreciate the confidence the Coach has shown in me and I hope to give him back the trust he has given me. I want to try and somehow be worthwhile.”
Regarding the injury Costa argued that he feels good and hopes to play as much at the World Cup.
“I think I’m fine. I tried the week after the Champions League but had almost no time to recover,” continued the Spanish striker.
“Now I want to train because I’ve had a few weeks without doing anything. All that matters is to train a little.
“Can I get to the first World Cup match? Sure, why not?”
Spain will play the first match at the World Cup in Brazil against the Netherlands on June 13, starting at 21:00 CET.
