One of the surprises of the last editions of the Spanish championship was Real Sociedad, team that played in this year in the Champions League.

At the moment the team from Anoeta ranks sixth in La Liga standings, the last place that leads in European competitions. Fourth position, resulting in the Champions League, is currently occupied by Bilbao, of who is 10 points behind, but for the Europa League places Sociedad have a close fight with Villarreal and Sevilla.

To ensure its presence in Europe next year, Jagoba Arrasate said his team not allow any misstep in the eight matches that were left to play in this championship edition.

“We weren’t good enough in defence and while we did good things in attack, we lost because we weren’t good enough,” said Sociedad referring to the game against Almeria.

“We’ve worked hard to ensure we don’t do that again. It was a real blow to us but I’m sure we’re past it now. Thursday’s game is very important.

“We can’t let games like this get away from us. It’s getting harder to win because every team has something to play for.

“But that’s no excuse. If we want to finish high up the table we can’t afford to drop any more points.”

Real Sociedad tonight will receive the visit of Valladolid, team that fighting to avoid relegation.
