The Bavarians were already in a crisis regarding their defensive line, after they remained without Jerome Boateng and Holger Badstuber, the first being injured while the second is suspended, and Javi Martinez, although back in training, is not fully recovered to enter the field.
As if problems were not enough, Pep Guardiola remains without the Brazilian footballer Dante, following Saturday’s victory in the Bundesliga against Mainz, final score 4-1, after Bayern was led 1-0.
The Brazilian defender, one of the leading players in the first 11 for Bayern Munich in the last year, was forced to leave the field of play after 43 minutes, following a ankle injury after a duel with Zdenek Pospech, being replaced by Alaba.
The Brazilian was left with a cut at ankle, which required ten stitches and will keep Dante away from the pitch for at least 14 days.
The injury of the Brazilian defender will leave Bayern with large holes on the defence, there lacking other three players: Boateng, Badstuber and Spaniard Javi Martinez – who could play in emergency situations and as a central defender.
The veteran Daniel Van Buyten (35) and newcomer Jan Kirchoff Guardiola will be used as regular starter in the center of defense in Wednesday’s match in the UEFA Champions League against Viktoria Plzen, the only stoppers available in the squad.
