Argentina star Lionel Messi was named for the fourth consecutive time man of the match, but admitted at the end of the game against Switzerland they had emotions to not be eliminated from the World Cup in Brazil.
Argentina passed with emotions by Switzerland in the knockout round of the World Cup in Brazil. After the first 90 minutes the table showed 0-0, but in extra time Messi perfectly passed for Di Maria, who managed to score with a shot from inside the box.
And at the end of the match the Argentina star admitted that his team had some emotion in this clash, and there was a nervousness in his team.
“At times, [we felt] nervousness because we could not get the goal and any mistake could put us out of the World Cup,” the Barcelona star told Marca.
“Minutes passed and we did not want to go to penalties.”
“First, I thought ‘gamble’, but then ‘Noodle’ [Di Maria] appeared and I decided to pass it.
“I do not know if it [the win] was deserved or not, but the important thing is that we are in another round, which was what we wanted.
“The important thing is that we are still in the tournament.”
Argentina reached the quarterfinals for the second time in the last 20 years. Last time when they qualified at this stage of the competition was in 2002. Now will meet Belgium in a match which will be played on Saturday, July 5, starting at 18:00 CET.
