The sports director of the grouping from BayArena, Rudi Voller, said Leverkusen coach enjoys the support of the entire leadership, even if the team has disastrous results lately.
If the early season Leverkusen reminded us by the team that 10 years ago are struggling in the Champions League, in 2014 the Bundesliga team has a totally different face. And during the last nine games in all competitions have achieved one draw, 1-1 at Hannover, losing the remaining 8 games.
The team was eliminated from the Champions League by PSG, which was imposed without problems both at home and away (6-1 on aggregate). Last ‘feat’ was the championship game at home, lost 2-3 in front of Hoffenheim, Leverkusen being now fourth in the standings, the last place that sent in UCL.
Even in these conditions, Rudi Voller, the club’s sporting director, said that Sami Hyypia has full support of his bosses.
“A week ago we said that we believe in the coach and nothing has changed,” Voller told reporters after the game with Hoffenheim.
“The coach is now tarnished, it would be the same at any other club. We must try to get out of trouble together with him.”
In turn, Hyypia also claimed he needed everyone at the club to help the team get out from the state in which they are at the moment.
“I’m not happy with our commitment, attitude and concentration. We had a match plan, but attitude and commitment are also part of football.
“I need the help of my staff and players – I can’t pull us out of this alone.” added former Liverpool defender.
