Inter Milan’s new owner, and and at the same time club president, Erick Thohir, an Indonesian billionaire, decided what to do about the symbol player of the grouping led by Walter Mazzarri – Javier Zanetti.
The 40-year-old former Argentina international will play until the end of this season or at least until mid-season 2014/2015, and then will have two options from the new leadership.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Thohir is going to be offering him a position as vice president of the club, or a place in the technical department – coach at youth teams within the club or a position in the staff members at first team.
Zanetti returned to the field in the last round of Serie A, in Inter victory against Livorno (2-0), after a break of more than half a year after an injury intervened. The Argentinian defender suffered in April an injury to the tendon, which at one time put into question the continuing career of the player.
Besides Zanetti’s appointment in a management position, Indonesian owner plans to make serious investment at the club in Milan. It also owns a football team in MLS, and a basketball team in the NBA. Sports marketing is not new for Thohir, a wealthy businessman who is passionate about the sport.
