The Netherlands beat Turkey in Istanbul 2-0, after goals scored by Robben and Sneijder, two of the leading footballers for the Oranje. This result helped Romania to finish second in Group D of World Cup qualifying in Brazil, and get tickets for the play-off round of qualifying at the final tournament from next year.
But at the end of the game, even if was excited of the success, saying that “It’s fantastic!”, the Dutch tactician Louis Van Gaal has accused the Portuguese referee Olegário Benquerencia of lack of professionalism.
“Despite the referee, we remained standing. Has had an unprecedented low level. I replaced Van Persie at the interval because was injured, and when was hit not even shown the yellow card. On Indi I replaced because got a yellow for nothing. Hw could miss the first game at the World Cup. ”
As about the game, the Dutch coach said: “I am proud of my team. There are not many teams to win easy here. But we scored quickly, and after the half-time we had more spaces. Unfortunately we have not scored another goal.”
Following this victory in Turkey the Netherlands climbed in FIFA rankings. This was the purpose of Van Gaal, who suggested before the match to return to his homeland with all three points, to be more likely to be seeded when they take place the World Cup 2014 drawings.
